Appalachian Heritage & Culture: The Bluegrass Music Tent - operated by The Music Outlet, will feature bluegrass instruments that kids can touch, pluck and get a quick lesson in.

Arts & Crafts

Approximately 30 crafters ranging from handcrafted rocking chairs and pottery to custom jewelry makers will be on-site demonstrating their techniques and selling their products. This craft show places a strong emphasis on fine art pieces and mountain hand crafts.

Shamrock Cruise In to feature Aero Warriors

Tim Lopata has announced the Aero Warriors will be joining THE DINER Shamrock Cruise-In on Saturday, March 17, 2012. These NASCAR homogolated cars will be arriving after their gathering at the Bristol Speedway for Food City Fanfest on Friday.

Classic cars fans will enjoy up-close views of Talladegas , Superbirds , Cyclones and more. (Later, Mustang Ministries will be arriving after their cruise thru the Smokey Mountains and the Dam.)

According to aerowarriors.com, the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona and 1970 Plymouth Road Runner SuperBird were built for just one reason - to dominate stock car racing. The Dodge Daytona and Plymouth SuperBird demonstrated the extremes to which the factories would go to earn victories on the nation's race tracks. The winged Aero Warriors graced the nation's speedways from September, 1969 until September, 1972.

"(The Aero Warriors) were built with NASCAR in mind; the superbirds and Daytonas had large rear wings and didn't go over well with the public (at first), now they are very valuable and collectible, says Tim Lopata. The Talladegas and the Cyclones were more of a race look / family useable car. The Cyclones were even given (race car driver) names like "Cale Yarborough edition" and "Dan Gurney edition."

St. Patty’s Day is right around the corner, and on Saturday March 17, 2012, THE DINER RATS CAR CLUB will host the 4th Annual Shamrock Saturday Cruisin’ For Food to help two local charities: Sevier County Food Ministries and Wears Valley Ranch.

The Shamrock Saturday Cruisin’ for Food will move from Smokies Stadium beginning

at noon on Saturday March 17 and down Highway 66 to THE DINER where trucks will be waiting to receive and transport the food to the two pantries. The majority of the food will go to Sevier County Food Ministries as they serve the broader needs of our community.

THE DINER will be serving traditional St. Patrick’s Day fare including Corned Beef and Cabbage, Irish Soda Bread and Shepherds Pie.

The public is invited to come see classic restored 60s and 70s Winston Cup Aero Reunion Cars at THE DINER. Following the Friday Winston Cup Aero Reunion at Bristol, these classics are traveling to be here on Saturday. (These Aero cars include Talladegas, Cyclones, Daytonas, and Superbirds from the 1969 and 1970 season.) Between 2 and 3p.m. THE DINER will also hold drawings for special prizes and coupons for participants and contributors.

To participate, all you have to do is drive your classic car, truck or bike (or your everyday “driver”) to Smokies Stadium located at I-40 and Highway 66, bring a bag of groceries, preferably canned & boxed (non-perishables) and join the 12 noon Caravan Cruise to THE DINER on Hwy 66. Monetary donations can also be made directly to these two important Sevier County ministries. For residents that would like to help but cannot attend the Cruise-In, food donations are now being collected at THE DINER for the St. Patrick’s Day event.

Four years ago Sevier County Food Ministries, an emergency food resource for people experiencing a food shortage, served about 800 families every week. Currently, the ministry serves 1500 families per week. Wears Valley Ranch is a Christian home and school for children from crisis family situations. They, like other Christian organizations, have seen challenging times and are always grateful for the generosity of those who contribute to the work of the home and school.

THE DINER hosts Buddy Holly tribute

SEVIERVILLE, TN - THE DINER, a family-friendly, 50s-style restaurant located on Highway 66 in Sevierville is hosting a tribute to the music of Buddy Holly on February 3, 2012.

"Buddy Holly is alive and well in the form of Kenny James," says Howard Kingsbury, owner of THE DINER. "February 3 is the 53rd anniversary of that fateful day in 1959 when a plane crashed near Clear Lake, Iowa, killing the pilot, entertainers Buddy Holly, J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) and Ritchie Valens. We want to remember the music of Buddy Holly with a special meal and a performance by Kenny James (as Buddy Holly)."

Kenny James (a familiar face at The Memories Theatre in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee) learned to sing and play guitar from his father, who introdced him at an early age to performers such as Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Elvis, Carl Perkins and others.

Kingsbury said that the restaurant will serve a special meal from 6pm until 8:30pm and guests attending the event will receive a pair of glasses (like Buddy Holly used to wear) as a party favor. Tables must be reserved ahead of time by calling (865) 908-1904 weekdays between 8a.m. and 9p.m. Cost for the dinner is $37.50 or the alternative Steakburger Meal is $29.50 (includes taxes & tip).

Seating begins at 6p.m. for this very special meal and event at THE DINER. Kenny James will provide his unique tribute to Buddy Holly entertainment from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., including performances of songs like "Peggy Sue", "That'll Be The Day", "Not Fade Away", "Everyday", "Oh Boy", and "Rave On."

The menu will include a choice of 10 oz Ribeye, prime rib, beef tips or grilled salmon specified at time of reservation, side salad, baked potato, two diner sides, bread choice, Suzy Q's pie choice, and unlimited beverage for the evening. The steakburger meal is a bacon cheeseburger, fries or side, pie choice, plus unlimited beverage for the evening.

Intimate booth seating is available on the south side of THE DINER, assigned seating by THE DINER staff, and all requests for tables are on first come, first served basis.
